Disney’s hard at work.
For a long time Disney has been working on a streaming service similar to Netflix, which includes a paid subscription in order to stream their content. They call it Disney+ and it’s set to arrive towards the end of 2019. It will be cheaper than Netflix and packed full of TV Series, movies and more. Here’s a quick look into what TV Series to look out for when Disney+ arrives.
Marvel Series in development:
It was announced that many Marvel characters are set to get their own TV Series in an attempt to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe even further, these characters include:
The series is set to “follow Loki as the trickster and shape-shifter pops up throughout human history as an unlikely influencer on historical events.” The series will star Tom Hiddleston himself, to what capacity is still unsure. Michael Waldron who is currently working on Rick and Morty Season 4 is serving as show runner. It’s set to be available to stream when Disney+ arrives.
Scarlett Witch and Vision:
The series is yet to have a confirmed synopsis but will obviously be based around the two very complicated characters and their relationship. Elizabeth Olson and Paul Bettany are set to star. Jac Schaeffer who worked on the Captain marvel screenplay is set to serve as show runner. It’s set for release once Disney+ is up and running.
Winter Soldier and Falcon:
The series is also yet to have a confirmed synopsis but will also revolve around the two characters with Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie to star. We predict a spy/espionage type of theme around this limited series. We have very little information on this series, it’s likely to release after Disney+ starts streaming in late 2019.
Marvel Netflix Shows:
Star Wars Series:
It’s not just the Marvel Universe that’s getting expanded, there are plenty of Star Wars TV Series set to be on the way soon too:
Jon Favreua (Iron Man and Iron Man 2) is developing the series and the synopsis is as follows: ‘After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe, The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” Pedro Pascal is set to star as the protagonist and a LOT of money is being pumped into making this series a success. Sounds exciting right?
Other Character based Star Wars series:
It was also reported/rumoured that plenty of other Star Wars Series are in development, all based around certain characters in the universe such as: Obi Wan Kenobi, a Young Princess Leia, Captain Phasma, The Knights of Ren, Sith Lord Darth Bane and even Rose Tico. None of these have actually been confirmed yet, it would be no surprise if at least half of them do eventually get announced soon though.
High School musical: The Musical’
‘A new crop of East High Wildcats will put on a performance of — you guessed it — High School Musical for their winter theater production. Like with the movies, the teens quickly learn drama happens offstage as much as on it.’ The series will be 10 episodes long and will feature both original and new songs.
There we have it, Disney have been working hard to make their new streaming service a worthy competitor to the global success that is Netflix, but does it have what it takes? Will you be joining Disney+ when it’s released later this year? Let us know in the comments below
