One Plus 7 Pro: Your New Handset?

Oneplus have just unveiled their new flagship phone the OnePlus 7 Pro. It’s looking pretty darn powerful for a not too insane price. Let’s have a look at what they have to offer.

  • 6.67-inch screen
  • 3120 x 1440 OLED with a 90hz refresh rate
  • Snapdragon 855
  • Options of 6, 8, or 12GB RAM
  • 128GB or 256GB storage
  • 4,000 mAh battery
  • The OnePlus branded “Warp Charge”
  • An in-display fingerprint sensor
  • Pop up selfie camera

The Price

The Oneplus 7 Pro’s starting prices are £649, $699, Rs. 48,999, 709€.

The Indian Rupee price is very important, as many of the ‘flagship companies’ such as Apple and Google tend to hike the price for India. For example a Google phone priced at £649 is sold in India for Rs. 66,900! This is a big win for the Indian tech community, good job OnePlus.

What’s missing?

Due to it not being flagship priced, there are things absent from the OnePlus 7 Pro such as:

  • No Headphone Jack
  • No official IP water resistance rating
  • No wireless charging
  • No Micro SD card slot
  • No ‘always on display’

The OnePlus 7 Pro is rocking a 1440p display with HDR10+ support with Dolby Vision alongside the magnificent 90hz refresh. This means you are getting crisp colour with equally satisfying speed. The dual speakers are hidden away to allow for the bezeless design but it doesn’t mean it’s compromising on sound as it supports Dolby Atmos delivery diamond clarity audio. You have triple rear cameras with a main 48mp, f/1.6 aperture. These allow for wide angle photos, 3x optical zoom and nightscape for gorgeous nighttime photos. Round the front we have the Pop Up Camera at 16mp with dust resistance and a “Smart Drop” feature meaning it will retract itself when dropped to avoid damage! A truly ‘Smart’ Phone.

The screen is a constant 1440p, but what if you’re watching a 1080p video? My Google Pixel will just waste battery outputting 1440p despite only showing 1080p content, with the flick of a switch the OnePlus 7 Pro will allow a dynamic resolution, meaning it will scale your screen to the content you’re consuming! Watching a non HDR video in 720p? It’ll scale down and save on battery + data! Do you like playing the odd game on your phone? Well with a 90hz refresh rate you’ll be noticing smoother gameplay, the 4,000 mAh battery will allow you to game to your heart’s content and the dual speakers will grant you the satisfying crunch of a fight or the rev of a car engine! Whether you’re working, binging or just kicking back with a quick match of solitaire; OnePlus have you sorted.

To Conclude

The new OnePlus phone continues the legacy of its predecessors it’s got everything you’d want in a flagship whilst avoiding the expensive price. If you’re looking for an inexpensive but quality phone, you may have just found your home with the OnePlus 7 Pro.
