Our Hero’s and Villains:
One of Black Widows biggest enemies. Known as the Iron Maiden, originally a Russian government agent who lived in the shadow of Black Widow, leading to a deep hatred for Natasha. She eventually became a freelance assassin and mercenary.
Comicbook.com Interview: “[Melina has] been cycled through the Red Room through the Black Widow Training Program, five times since I was a child,” Weisz said. “So, I’m pretty seasoned spy.”
A more modern version of Black Widow. Also trained in the Red Room with Natasha, claimed her test scores exceeded those of Natasha’s. It’s likely she will become the new Black Widow with the MCU moving forward without Natasha.
The Soviets reaction/own version to Captain America. Him and Natasha once shared a love connection and were even married at one point in the comics. Known as being cruel and ruthless in the comics.
David Harbour described him as having an interesting arc, starting off as one thing and becoming another by the end of the movie. Likely to begin as a villain and progress into a hero. Or vice versa?
Seemingly the main villain of the movie. Taskmaster has photographic reflexes which means he’s able to copy other peoples skills and actions just by watching them.
He worked for SHIELD and was given a Super-Soldier Serum and developed additional powers, lost memories of his wife and his history with SHIELD. He then went on to become Taskmaster.
While not yet confirmed, Mason is likely to be Agent Rick Mason. A SHIELD agent, connecting Natasha’s first beginning as joining SHIELD to start doing good in the world.
When Is Black Widow set in the MCU:
Set after the events of Captain America: Civil War in which Natasha broke away after the Sakovia Accords and set before the events of Avengers: Infinity War in which she teamed up and stayed in hiding with Steve and Sam, taking part in secret missions across the globe.
What To Expect from Black Widow:
Black Widow is being pitched as a ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ type film in style, a spy drama packed with heart. The film is set to include themes of family and redemption. It will explore Natasha’s past and character in more detail.
Despite their comic counterparts not always getting along: Natasha, Yelena, Melina and Alexi will seemingly team up and work together to take on a mutual enemy. The trailers hint at a family dynamic between one another with Yelena already clearly a sister-figure to Natasha.
Taskmaster is set to be the main villain and it seems from the trailers that he’s picked up a few skills from other famous MCU characters, this is going to be interesting.
How Will Black Widow Effect The MCU?
While it’s set before the events of Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow will likely hint at the future of who takes Natasha’s place and what is yet to come.
The film may also hint at the creation of The Thunderbolts, a team of superhero’s which aren’t exactly the good guys. The team consists of characters such as Zemo, The Winter Soldier and even Taskmaster.
