The possibility that Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield could each suit up as Spider-Man in a live-action Spider-Verse is a dream that could become a reality. How does it begin? Well, possibly with Disney Plus show WandaVision.
HUGE UPDATE: Since initially writing this article, It now looks almost certain that a live-action Spider-Verse film is happening. According to Collider: Andrew Garfield will reportedly return as Spider-Man, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus AND Tobey Maguire is in talks to return as Spider-Man.
What began as just rumours, is now being reported to be true by major news sites.
WandaVision Could Lead To A Live Action Spider Verse:
Wanda, suffering from grief and mental health issues will create her own mini-universe where her and Vision are living happily together in the suburbs.
However, those living in this altered reality, including Wanda herself will understand that things in this ‘perfect’ life just aren’t 100%.
Come to the end of the show, things will spiral well out of control for both Scarlett Witch and Vision with Benedict Cumberbatch aka Doctor Strange making his WandaVision cameo step in and help her.
But what are the implications of this?
Well, Wanda is so powerful that she will have messed with the multiverse, causing different universes and realities to collide.
How Will A Live-Action Spider-Verse Film Work In The MCU?
The events in WandaVision and Doctor Strange: Into The Multiverse Of Madness will likely lead to characters from different Spider-Man films entering the MCU.
This could include Tobey Maguire from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and Andrew Garfield from Marc Webb’s version.
All of this leads to the possible creation of the Spider-Verse. A scenario in which all different versions of Peter Parker/Spider-Man will all collide and team up against a handful of enemies.
What Evidence Is There for a Live-Action Spider-Verse?
First off, the director of the original Spider-Man trilogy Sam Raimi, is officially directing Doctor Strange 2, a film focusing on the multiverse.
The MCU now has Raimi’s version of J. Jonah Jameson. That’s already two slight connections to the Raimi Spider-Man universe.
Second, Jamie Foxx is returning as Electro in Spider-Man 3. The same actor who played the exact same character in Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man 2.
That’s two very interesting connections to both the two other Spider-Man franchises.
Third, it was recently revealed that Doctor Strange will appear in Spider-Man 3, only hinting more that the Spider-Verse story will somehow be explored in the MCU.
Now, just to confirm this even more. There were recent rumours that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire were in talks to return as their respective spidey characters.
Sony addressed these rumours and didn’t deny them. They simply stated: ‘Those rumoured castings are not confirmed’.
Second, big online ‘scoopsters’ who have correctly hinted at the inner planning and goings-on at Marvel Studios have also hinted that this is what Marvel and Sony are planning.

Could Marvel Be Working On A Live-Action Spider-Verse Film?
At the end of the day, a live-action Spider-Verse film is a no brainer for both Sony and Marvel.
The Spider-Verse is already a thing in the comics, the story is nothing new and the recent success of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse only reassures the studios that the Spider-Verse storyline is a popular one.
It’s also a no brainer in terms of money at the box-office. A film featuring all three live-action Spider-Men would no doubt make an absolute killing at the box office and create a HUGE buzz for comic fans everywhere.
So while a Spider-Verse crossover event with Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield is far from confirmed. It’s also very likely to eventually happen. It’s a popular idea, it would make money and with the MCU already exploring the Multiverse, it all makes sense.
