The Mandalorian season 2 finale left things in an interesting place (spoiler warning), with Baby Yoda (Grogu) leaving to embark on training with Luke Skywalker. This loss left fans anxious to find out as much as they can about The Mandalorian season 3 and here’s everything we know so far: Including release date, cast, plot and more.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Release Date:
Filming for The Mandalorian season 3 is expected to begin April 5, 2021. With time for filming, post-production and VFX, it’s likely season 3 will release in early 2022.
This is unlike seasons 1 and 2, which released early winter 2019 and 2020. Instead, The Book of Boba Fett will take the release slot of early winter 2021.
It’s unknown how exactly The Mandalorian and Boba Fett series will connect, but it’s clear that Disney is planning some kind of crossover.

Will Baby Yoda Appear in The Mandalorian Season 3?
With Baby Yoda/Grogu going off to train with Luke, it’s unclear if our favourite little puppet will appear next season.
Despite this, The Mandalorian season 3 will almost certainly be led by Pedro Pascal and we are likely to see Cara Duke (Gina Carano) and Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) again.
Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) was not killed in the season 2 finale so it’s likely there will be a continued threat from him.
With Mando now in possession of the Dark Saber, he may get caught up in the war for Mandalore. This means we’ll likely see much more of Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze.
There is hope that the Mandalorian may check in with Baby Yoda, which would also possibly mean more cameos by Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.
What Will Happen in Season 3 of The Mandalorian?
The first two seasons of The Mandalorian revolved around returning Baby Yoda (Grogu) to the Jedi. However, now that the finale saw him off to train with Luke, we were left with many questions as to what season 3 might hold.
Will Mando return to bounty hunting, or will he take full ownership of the Dark Saber and get involved in the fight to control Mandalore?
If Din does decide to take full ownership of the saber, we could most certainly expect rivalries with Bo-Kata. So far Din has displayed no interest in intergalactic politics over season 1 and 2.
However, now Baby Yoda (Grogu) is off his hands, maybe he’ll have a change of heart. It’ll be really interesting to see if he will get involved in the greater Mandalorian saga.
The Mandalorian S3 Round-up:
- No release date confirmed, however, it’s likely to be in early 2022.
- All of the main cast are expected to return.
- Not sure if we’ll see Baby Yoda (Grogu) *sigh*
- Looks like it will revolve around ownership of the Dark Saber and control of Mandalore.
The Mandalorian season 1 and 2 are available to stream right now on DisneyPlus. If you haven’t watched it yet, what are you waiting for AND why are you reading this? And if you have watched it already, why not have another binge?
